A little about our chosen non-profit — Solid Ground

I am biased about Solid Ground.  I am not going to attempt to lie.  They do so much for the community that it is hard not to be biased once you are familiar with what they do.

Here are a few things they did in 2010 and are continuing to do:

  • Developing 53 affordable apartments for formerly homelss families at Magnuson Park
  • Creating an organic farm in Seattle that will feed hungry families
  • Advocating on behalf of the people who are on Disablity Lifeline (a program for the very poor who are unable to work)
  • Assisting those who are in danger of having their homes foreclosed on
  • Helping homeless families find permanent housing

The list goes on.  This is just a snapshot.

RE Bar Camp Seattle is a free event and we hope that you will find it in your hearts to donate whatever you feel the event is worth to help Solid Ground continue to provide incredible community resources.   We will have donation buckets available at RE BarCamp for any contribution you are able to make.

Thank you!

Solid Ground, a worthy cause

Hi, I am Babbs Weissman.  I am acting as the liaison between Solid Ground and Seattle’s ReBar Camp.  I have been working with Solid Ground for a couple of years and when Linda Aaron asked me to get them involved in ReBar Camp I was thrilled.

The last two years, Solid Ground has been the beneficiary of my office’s holiday fundraising and volunteering efforts.  After the holidays I always feel a little empty because I miss organizing these fundraising efforts and working with the amazing people at Solid Ground.  I was thrilled when Linda asked me to help because it will allow me to remain committed to fundraising for this worthy cause!

A little about Solid Ground:  They are located in Wallingford and not only do they serve 20 food banks (including the food bank located in their building called Family Works) but they also run over 30 programs to help people “overcome homelessness, hunger, domestic violence and other traumas associated with poverty”.  They are an incredible resource for our community and would be unable to help people the way they do without support.  We are hoping that because our camp is free, you won’t mind bringing along a non-perishable food item to donate.  If you forget (please don’t!!) you can also give a monetary donation at the event.  An even easier option is to donate right on their site.

These are lean years and any help you are able to lend is sincerely appreciated.  Have a great camp!
