It’s just snow, people!

Hi gang,

In at least four years, the Fredericksburg Virginia area has had virtually no snow, to mention.  None… maybe flurries that melt by the end of the day; but no real snow…  Then we plan REBarCamp and look what happens…  That’s OK!  Ben and I have chatted and we are moving forward with Happy Hour and REBarCamp/Virginia.

The snow is expected to tapper to flurries this morning (which it seems to already have done).  The current snow fall is only about 6-8 inchs and not 10-12 as predicted.  I’m going to go play with the kids and then head into the office around noon.  If you’re in the area already and want to meet for lunch, please DM, txt or e-mail me.  My info is everywhere!

We understand that some folks may not feel comfortable in the snow driving in, but we already have lots of folks who have flown or drove to the area.  The offices are right off of I-95 which VDOT tends to take care of very well.  Please be careful and check back here for updates and posts regarding any changes.

Setting Expectations – Internet access

February 26, 2009 by

Hi all,

I wanted to let everyone know that we are well over our original limit on capacity.  Ben and I had to make some tough calls to make sure that the building worked out for everyone.

One issue is Internet access. We have a T1 and will be dedicating the entirety of the bandwidth to this event.  We’re even taking our web server down for the day to facilitate this.  Having said that, our IT consultants tell us that a T1 should handle about a 40 user connections…  That means we’ll have some latency issues.

If you have a phonecard or way to tether your device, that would be helpful.

We know that these types of events are basically technology tailgating parties, so hang in there with us while we all play and learn together!

Need Lodging Commitments

Hey gang, one thing that I neglected to grasp was the number of folks coming from out of town and needing a hotel room.  Right across the street from the Association office is Hilton Garden Suites.  I’ve talked to them and if I can get ten people to book rooms, we get the $150 a night room for $99.

However, I don’t want to be stuck with the bill if we don’t.  So before I book the block of rooms.  I need to know how many people will stay there on March 2nd.

The hotel suites are about one year old and are in a safe location.  The options are king beds or twin and each room comes with refridgerator, microwave, coffee maker etc.  There is a business suite and gym, as well.

Please comment here, e-mail me Matthew-at-Realtor.com or DM me on twitter if you’re going to stay here.  If you say that you are and don’t, I’ll have to invoice you the $99 fee.

If we have enough over the weekend, I’ll book the rooms Monday.

Update:

I have the following that are booked or will be booked:

Jason Berman
Derek Massey
Daniel Rothamel
John Lauber
Andy Kaufman
Candy Lynn
Diana Rondineli
Joey Marino
Hilary Marsh
Ben Martin
Monika McGuillicudy
Mike Simonsen

I have given the Hilton your names, and you’ll need to go and confirm with your credit card. The rooms are $99. If you get hassled, ask for Erica in the sales office.

If you are not on the list and plan on staying at this hotel, you need to e-mail me at [email protected] in order to get on the list.

Please register using RE Barcamp (as first and last name) confirmation #3341430887. Ask them to place it under your name and credit card number. Remember, I have to pay for the rooms if they are not used, so please don’t stick me with the bill :) .

Thanks!
