Housing for Homeless Initiative Continues with Seattle RE BarCamp

We’re happy to announce we’re bringing the Housing for Homeless initiative to Seattle as part of the upcoming RE BarCamp on March 19th! The RE BarCamp in San Francisco was the first RE BarCamp (there have been 20+ events in various cities over the past year) to have a fundraiser associated with it. The fundraiser, dubbed the “Housing for Homeless” initiative and organized by Ginger Wilcox, came from the thought that we have this massively powerful community around the RE BarCamp movement and we’d be wasting it if we didn’t use it to create real change in our local communities. I’ve always been a socially conscious person interested in improving the lives of others and Ginger is one of my better friends from the RE.net, so I decided to spearhead organizing the Seattle fundraiser. The idea behind Housing for Homeless is for each RE BarCamp event to have a fundraiser benefiting a local charity focused on housing accompanying it as a way to bring real change to their local community.

The San Francisco funds are being donated to Compass Community Services, a San Francisco based charity. They don’t have a final tally yet as to total funds raised, but regardless of what that number is — we aim to beat it with the Seattle. We’ve picked Solid Ground as the local charity that the Seattle Housing for Homeless fundraiser will benefit. All proceeds raised will go toward building housing units at their Sand Point Housing project. You can learn more about Solid Ground here.

Why donate?

The RE BarCamp experience is FREE, the knowledge openly shared is FREE, lunch is FREE (all thanks to our sponsors), networking is FREE. While your eternal gratitude will be greatly appreciated, we would also like to tap into the local real estate community and make a difference in the lives of others.

How?

We would like you to donate what you might have spent on the knowledge gained, networking opportunities, breakfast, lunch, and beer to a worthy cause. There will be a number of ways to donate:

• All conference organizers will be carrying around a donation envelope at the RE BarCamp on September 8th
• Paypal link on the sidebar of this blog
• Via credit card. The folks at Solid Ground will have credit card slips for those who would like to donate with plastic instead of cash.
