From SFO – The San Francisco Airport it’s about 20 minutes by car for map directions by car click here (easy to get to) and about an hour by public transportation, map directions by BART and MUNI here.

From OAK – The Oakland Airport it’s anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour depending on traffic by car.  directions here.  You can do BART from OAK as well.  It’s about an hour long ride.

You might be staying in the Union Square, Downtown, or SOMA districts. If so, your best bet is to just have the hotel concierge take care of you or amble your way in front of any hotel curbside.  It’s about 20 minutes by car, directions if needed.

  • Yellow Cab (415) 433-3333 (airport or hotel)

From OAK it’s going to be about $4 for BART, $55ish for Cab, and for Super Shuttle $27 for the first and $5 for ea. additional.

The What, How, and Why

We started planing the first RE barcamp in January of 2008. It was an idea for a one time gathering a bunch of folks (geeks maybe) for a day long “unconference” event of sharing. On July 22nd we hit it off big with about 4 times as many people showing up than originally thought and the idea that this event would happen again in other local markets. We had no idea we would be coming back around, one year later, to say that this movement has gone mainstream in a big way. Somewhere around 25 RE barcamps to date and counting.

This event is entirely driven by passionate people in Real Estate. Sponsor funded and User generated – all voluntarily.

So here we are back in SF for the first annual national reunion and we have big plans to make this special. We’re very excited about coming home to San Francisco and have a lot to say come this August 4th, but for now will let history speak for us by asking experienced campers what RE barcamp means to them.

It’s a question that comes up a lot. What is RE barcamp? Maybe you don’t know yet, because San Francisco’s event will be your very first. As we approach the one year mark for this movement, some have certainly earned journeyman type experience with the time they have put in. For the newb or first timer on the unconference track, the questions are probably best answered by those that have participated already.
