Here is your Cheat Sheet for RE BarCamp Pittsburgh

 

Location

 

•     The Holiday Inn Crown Plaza is located in the South Hills of Pittsburgh, right across the street from  the South Hills Village Mall. For the locals, it is right off of Route 19 South. For those traveling from afar, no worries, as it is not quite as bad as it sounds!  It is hilly, but fortunately, there should not be snow on October 21^{st !}  I did say “should not’, right?

 

•     The parking is FREE right on the premises, and we will have signs guiding you once you enter.

 

·         Here is the address so you can use your GPS, or whatever gets you where you need to be.

Coffee, Snacks and Beverages

 

•     Please bring your own water, specialty coffee, and/or snacks to RE BarCamp. We chose to throw a FREE event, which means we had to forgo on-site catering!

 

•     There will be coffee available at the venue in the early part of the morning.

 

·         The Holiday Inn will be prepared to serve everyone at their lunch buffet for $10.95 + tax. We have let them know that you all need to get in and get out so you can get back to the amazing sessions.

 

•     If you prefer something else for lunch there are LOTS of restaurants nearby. You will find a place to eat without an issue. Ask for recommendations, if you would like.

 

Also, because we have some first-timers in the crowd, RE Barcamp is not a conference or a seminar – it is a series of workshops. There are no instructors, and there is no agenda. There are also no “scheduled” sessions. And that brings us to the next point…

 

 

Calendar of Events

 

·        The festivities start the night before RE BarCamp on Tuesday, October 20^th 2009 from 7 to 9 PM with Beer For Bloggers at Bar Louie’s in Station Square.  The address is: 240 Station Square Drive, Pittsburgh, PA 15219 (412) 394-0500

 

 

•     Please be sure to Show Up by 8:30 AM promptly on Wednesday for Registration purposes.     

      There is a quick sign-in process, and we want to give you a RE BarCamp Badge. You will also get to hob-knob before the actual starting time.

 

•     There are 30 workshops/discussions slated for the day and – because we don’t use speakers ~ you are encouraged to lead one! You will get the chance to slot your workshop when you arrive.

 

•     We start the sessions at 9:30 AM on the nose.

 

•     We will break for lunch mid-day.

 

•     We will be done around 4:30 PM or so.

 

•     After RE BarCamp, we are heading to Houlihan’s Restaurant located at The Galleria.  The address is:

      1500 Washington Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15228  (412) 379-4811.   Follow the crowd!

 

•     There may be after-after-events planned, so keep your eye on the #rebcpgh hashtag feed. Need help with watching hashtags? Ask someone at BarCamp for a quick lesson!

 

 

Noteworthy

 

•   Bring your laptop, if you want. The meeting rooms are wired for wifi. We will give you a password in the opening remarks at 9:00 AM.

 

•   The Twitter hashtag for the event is #rebcpgh

 

 

 The Law of Two Feet

 

•   The Barcamp meeting space will split into 5 “rooms”

 

•   At any given time, there will be 5 separate discussions — one in each room

 

•   If you are in a session and want to leave ~ use your two feet to move to the next one!

T-2 Days Until RE Bar Camp Pittsburgh!

Well, time is flying and RE Bar Camp – Pittsburgh is just around the corner!  Later this morning we will be emailing a two page Information Sheet to all registered attendees that have signed-up for the Main Event!

Be sure to check your email at least once before the end of the day on Monday so you can receive The Latest AND Greatest Information on the Event!

Also, the night before RE Bar Camp, we will be having a get together commonly known as Beer For Bloggers on Tuesday, October 20th 2009 from 7 PM to 9 PM to just decompress from the work day, socialize, have a couple adult beverages and just relax!  It is being held at Bar Louie in Station Square (Look at the top of the menu screen for the Beer For Bloggers post for more information).

Finally, the night of RE Bar Camp, we will also be getting together for the after party at Houlihan’s located at the Galleria.  Use this time to mingle with the top social networking gurus in both Pittsburgh and the surrounding areas!  It will be a fun time had by all!

With only ten days remaining until RE Bar Camp – Pittsburgh, it is time to get everything finalized and be READY for the main event on Wednesday, October 21st 2009 at 8:30 a.m.! On Friday, October 16th 2009 all registered campers will be receiving a pdf of Helpful Hints & Tips for next Wednesday!  Keep visiting this site throughout the upcoming week to keep informed of all the latest happenings!

What is ReBarCamp? What can we Talk About?

REBarCamp is not a conference. Attendees actually decide what the sessions will be.

Facilitators will write the desired sessions on a big whiteboard, and then divide the sessions into tracks, so there is always 3-5 sessions going at one time. Here is one more very unique thing about REBarCamp. The sessions are NOT presentations, they are CONVERSATIONS. The experts in the room will often give a 15-20 minute talk on a subject to get the conversation going, and then open the room to question and answer. If you have a question or a statement, ask it. If you have an answer, offer it. If you have nothing to add to a conversation, REBarCamp is not for you. There are NO attendees at REBarCamp, only PARTICIPANTS.

RE BarCamp Pittsburgh Date/Location Just Announced!

RE BarCamp Pittsburgh, PA will take place on Wednesday, October 21st, 2009 at the Holiday Inn Crown Plaza – Pittsburgh South, which is located in Bethel Park, PA.  The event will occur from 9 AM EDT to 5 PM EDT.  We look forward to seeing you there!
