That’s right, we have officially begun the planning for REBarCamp Portland in 2010. Check out this video of where we may be holding the event. The dates (yes, I said dates) will be announced very soon!

Don’t Forget To Add Your Photos!

Remember, we have a Flickr group? Yes, we have a group over on Flickr that was set up just for RE BarCamp Portland.

Now that you are home and all is settled, you need to add all your photos from RE BarCamp Portland to this group. If you don’t have an account on Flickr, get one! It’s free and easy to set up, you just add yourself to the group and then add your photos to the group. By doing this, we all get to enjoy what you saw during the day. We all couldn’t be everywhere (though I tried). There is already 199 photos on the site but I’m sure there were a lot more than that taken.

Make sure to tag any photos you upload with our official hashtag of #rebcpdx. Also, if you know the names of anyone in your photo, tag them too! Don’t just stop with pics from the day, if you took any the night before or at the after party at Madison’s post them too!

Get to it, go add you photos! We look forward to seeing them.

RE BarCamp Portland Archives Are Up!

That’s right, Dakno.tv has all the archives up from RE BarCamp Portland (and other RE BarCamps too). Not only did they livestream and capture the sessions in the main room, they also captured several other sessions from around CubeSpace to share with the world.

Below you’ll find our keynote from Lorelle VanFossen which absolutely rocked! Thank you again Lorelle for giving of your day to spend sharing with us. (Note: if you haven’t added Lorelle to your feed reader do it now)

Maybe you’d like to see Rich and Bobby talk Twitter? You can see that here, compliments of @nik_nik (they aren’t as cute as Nicole though).

How about facebook/LinkedIn with Brad Hanks? Check it out. Thanks to Brad for stepping in at the last minute to do this and also thanks to Reggie for the material.

So, go check them out, pass them along and get to a RE BarCamp coming to your city.

Housekeeping

This Thursday is THE DAY! Yes, that is only 4 days from now! The name badges are in, the t-shirts will be printed by Wednesday. We’re still trying to get 2 more sponsors to cover lunch (hint, hint).

Time for some housekeeping about the event. We’ll be open for registration at 8:30AM on Thursday and beginning everything at 9AM. Please make sure to get here in time for all the festivities. RE BarCamp Portland will take place at CubeSpace. Directions AND parking instructions for CubeSpace are here. Make sure you read these since parking can be a bit tricky.

What should you bring?

· Yourself!

· Laptop (yes, we have WiFi at CubeSpace)

· A willing attitude to learn and expand your mind

· Ideas to share with someone else (you never know when a session will break out)

· A list of things you’d like to learn

· A smile

· Camera

· A hug

· Moo cards (don’t know what those are? You will)

· Maybe $1 or $2 in case we don’t get those final two sponsors (I hope we do though!)

· Questions you’d like answered (there will be all sorts of great resources here)

· Flip Video

· Did I mention a smile?

Remember, this event is about you. Please think about things you might like to share, things you want to learn, things you just “don’t get”. Hopefully you’ll “get them” a little more by the end of the day.

Also, there will be an after event get together at Madison’s Grill. This is for all who want to come. It is not a “sponsored” event (which means you have to buy your own food and drinks). You can expect some wonderful networking/socializing time to happen here. Plus, I’ve been told that they will have mint in stock for mojitos! Yeah!

Thanks to our Official RE BarCamp Portland Photographer Aaron Hockley for the mojito.

Don’t “Get It” About RE BarCamp? Watch This!

RE BarCamp Los Angeles just took place on April 2nd. About 300 real estate peeps descended upon the Pasadena Hilton to learn all they could learn. Simi Valley Realtor Ted Mackel was on location and brought his camera with him. This video is less than 10 minutes long and well worth the time to watch. He interviews all sorts of attendees to get their thoughts on the event. I promise this will help fill in some blanks you may have about how one of these things runs. Thanks @RealtorTed.

Why RE BarCamp Works

RE BarCamp is all about sharing what you know and learning from your peers. When ideas are contributed freely they’re added to, passed from one person to another and seem to take a life of their own. RE BarCamp is like having the very best of social media set loose right there in the same room with you, and one of the reasons why I think it works so well is the unique blends of skills and knowledge involved at each one.

“Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn.” ~ Benjamin Franklin

This is the secret, “Involve me and I learn.” If you ask someone who’s attended a RE BarCamp what it was like, expect to hear some excitement along with the description. One of the things I like best about RE BarCamp is that with so many different “teachers”, you are bound to find something that meshes with how you naturally like to learn.

People generally tend to fall into four different learning styles (visual, auditory, reading/writing or kinesthetic, which is basically “learning by doing”) and are either introverts (who may prefer to learn in a smaller group) or extroverts (who love group activities and interaction). For a visual/introvert like me, the usual style of a teacher talking in front of a large classroom is not ideal. I prefer a smaller group and I’ll remember what I see or what I write, not necessarily what I hear. Whatever style suits you best, RE BarCamp is likely have your covered. Bonus points for having fun while learning — you’re likely to go over it again in your mind, tell others and feel positive about the subject, all of which will help you retain what you learned.

Each RE BarCamp is different because it relies so heavily upon the attendees to share their own knowledge, but in general you’ll find large groups for main topics, smaller groups for tutorials and even groups that form spur-of-the-moment just because someone asked a question and someone else was willing to sit down and go over the subject. Thanks to social media, people who aren’t able to attend can still learn through live streaming or by following tweets of the attendees.

If you can attend a RE BarCamp in person, DO. No matter your tech skills or your learning style, you WILL learn things you can use. Best of all, you’ll meet a bunch of people who love sharing what they know, so you’ll be able to keep the learning going.

T-Shirt Or Flash Drive? You Decide…

I’m still looking for a few more sponsors to make this part a reality. I’ve been told that not everyone is crazy about the t-shirt idea so I thought I’d see what you all thought. Please take a minute to answer the question.

We’re Packed!!!

That’s right, we are all filled up!

Sorry to be the bearer of this news but we have reached maximum capacity for RE BarCamp Portland in what I would say is record time!  That’s right, we filled 200 spots and still have about 6 weeks until the event.

What do I do if I didn’t get signed in?

If you missed your chance, head over to the RSVP tab and sign up!  Do it sooner than later.  We are taking names on a waiting list and will let people know when spaces open up as I’m sure some will be unable to attend.

Make sure you keep coming back to this page to see what sort of things you can expect at RE BarCamp Portland.  It is shaping up to be an awesome event.  If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to call Dale at 360.260.3253 or email me at dale.chumbley (at) comcast.net.

What Do You Want To Learn At REBarCamp Portland?

The wheels are in motion, the venue is set, sponsorships are coming in, topic ideas are starting to happen. I am very excited about all the great things that are coming together. This event is shaping up to be a wonderful one. I love that we are getting great involvement at the local level as well as from around the country. We have as many local sponsors on board as we do national ones and for that I’m thankful (we do still need a few more, please shoot me an email if you are interested).

So, the question I have is this…

What do you want to learn at REBarCamp Portland? What thing are you just not “getting”? What thing are you doing but sure you’re not doing “right”? We would love to hear what you’re hoping for. After all, this event is about all of us. It’s about learning from each other, challenging each other to step outside of our comfort zones and go for it. Please leave a comment on this post sharing your thoughts about what you’d like to learn about. Hopefully we can make sure that happens at some point during the day.

Highlights From A REBarCamp (& what to look forward to!)

On January 6th I was fortunate enough to attend REBarCamp NYC the day before Inman Connect NYC. This was my first REBarCamp and I absolutely loved it! I was able to meet IRL (in real life) so many wonderful people who had only lived in my computer up until then. It was truly a remarkable day (not to mention it was my birthday).

One of the great people I got to meet was Greg Afarian (aka @ZipvoGreg). Greg was an animal with the Flip video camera and I’m thankful he was. He captured tons of the event and did a nice compilation in this little video. It lasts about 11.5 minutes and is worth watching. It showcases some of the sessions and captures some of the fun you can expect at REBarCamp Portland!

What are you waiting for? Clear out April 23rd on your calendar and RSVP!
