Advanced Tract Topics

We are breaking things up this year based upon feedback and doing two separate tracts, one for novices, and one for advanced practioners. Please let us know what you’d like to learn about, especially as an experienced user of social media and technology or a REbarCamp “groupie.” You can submit your own topics as well. They do not all have to be about technology &/or social media.
We appreciate your comments below as well. But we fully expect all of you to participate. This is an INTERACTIVE format, and there are no real “experts” out there. Bring your questions, suggestions, and feedback. Be prepared to share!

Why You Should Attend RE BarCamp Charlotte 2011

I’ve been to at least ten REBarCamps across the country over the past few years, including the seminal event in San Francisco in 2008. While no two were the same I noticed a distinct movement away from what I consider to be the essence of what a BarCamp should be… open, interactive, all inclusive, non-centric group discussion based sessions.
IMHO, BarCamps are not meant to be like your traditional conferences with defined panels, discussion leaders, vendor pitches and the such. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, but if you’re looking for that type of learning environment we can point you to a number of such events.
As you can see in previous posts we’re looking to crowd source the topics to be considered for discussion at this years event, however we’re not looking for ‘discussion leaders’ to teach or singularly pontificate on the merits of their personal strategies for the rest to revel in.
Instead we’re going with a group think model…
Regardless of the topic, each session will follow a highly interactive format designed to get the most out of, and provide the most to, all participants. A session will begin with a question, comment or concern asked by any willing participant in regards to the topic at hand. There are no stupid questions, except those that are not asked.
As a very simple example… lets say the topic is ‘Blogging’. Session participant raises their hand and states ‘I don’t understand how blogging is going to help me attract new business.’ or ‘Blogging is a time suck’.
Over the following 3-5 minutes other session members get to ask probing questions about the statement/question… i.e. ‘’, ‘Do you have a blogging strategy?’, ‘What do you currently write about?’, ‘Where do you blog?’, ‘What blogging platform do you use?’, ‘Do you integrate your blog with other social hubs like Facebook?’… and so on.
Once everyone understands the participants situation better, the following 15 minutes is dedicated to the group providing succinct feedback, advice or deeper questions and answers… offering everyone the chance to participate and collectively enlighten the crowd.
We’ll repeat this twice per session. Organizers will serve as moderators simply to keep things moving along in a timely fashion.
This format works for any session topic really, from the practical ‘How to use an iPad in real estate or mortgage sales’ to the theoretical ‘How is Realtor Party Political Survival Initiative going to help or hurt our industry’.
So, mark next Friday May 6th 2011 on your calendar, take the day off of working in your business and learn how to work on it… come to Ballantyne Village and the Superior School of Real Estate for REBarCamp Charlotte… details and directions in the sidebar to the right–>
Bring your knowledge, experience and wisdom… and be prepared to share:
- What’s working for you and what isn’t
- What you’re working on, what you would like to be working on, or what you think needs to be worked on
- What you would like to see change, or what you would like to see more of
Everyone should walk away from this UnConference enlightened and empowered with inceptional (I just made that word up) ideas that take their businesses to new and unexpected levels… which is exactly why you should attend REBarCamp Charlotte.
And if you need additional motivation…
We’ll be having a pre-event party Thursday night (details to be announced on this site) and a post event party Friday at D’Vine Wine Cafe (40 steps from the venue) where networking with cool, like minded people is at a premium.
Legendary #REBCCLT 2011 Pre-Party Details!

Yeah, we were saving the good stuff for you. Start off REbarcamp Charlotte right, by coming out the night before (Thursday, May 5th!) to mingle & network. Ok. Party.
We are starting off by breaking bread, aka chowing down on some authentic New York Pizza at Libretto’s Pizzeria & Italian Kitchen. A couple of just taste tested it last night, and it is “FANTABULOUS.” They have $2 Bud Light Bottles & $6 Three Olive YOU CALL IT! You won’t be disappointed. We are hanging out there from 6-8 PM.
After that we are headed just across the street to our preferred hotel, ALOFT, who has the coolest club in Ballantyne, the WXYZ bar. 1/2 price wine, $3 drafts, and live acoustic music are sure to help you loosen up for all the info you are gonna cram into your brain on Friday.
You may be tempted just to skip till Friday. But let me assure you, networking with your out of town peers, who are traveling from as far away as California and Washington state, as well as important relocation cities like Atlanta and Raleigh, this is one of the most important things you can do for your business. Make memories, share good times, and gather future referrals and make the most of REbarcamp Charlotte. You won’t regret it.
