Wrap Up of Austin’s First REBar Camp!

Just wanted to post a quick note to thank those of you that came out to Third Base Downtown for our first REBar Camp in Austin!  We had between 75-80 attendees and I think everyone walked away from the event with new connections and new information.  Sessions included:  How You Can Make $$ By Referring a Home Warranty, Appraisal Issues in 2010, Schmoozing for Business, Beat the Headlines! Some FAQs for tomorrow –

I’ve been getting quite a few questions from people about REBar Camp tomorrow, so I figured I would address them here.  If you have others, @ me on Twitter at @texasREgirl or text me at 512-784-8440.  I am swamped with things to do before tomorrow, but will do my best to answer your questions!

What time does the event start?

Registration/session volunteering sign-up starts at 12 noon.  I would recommend getting there at noon, especially if you are interested in leading a session!

Will there be food/drinks served at the event?

We will be serving chips/queso & iced tea/water upon arrival, but I’d recommend eating lunch before you come.  As you know, this is a FREE event!  Sponsor dollars only go so far. You can order off the menu if you’d like – Third Base has some GREAT food.  We will also be serving heavy apps – chicken quesdillas, philly cheesesteak rolls and chicken skewers toward the end of the event.  All alcohol is on your own if you care to partake.  Third Base does have a full bar.

What is the deal with the post-party?

There will be an official post-party hosted by The GoodLife Team at their office at 1114 E Cesar Chavez.  I’d recommend car-pooling..there is plenty of free street parking, but the more people you can fit in your car, the less you have to walk because people will be able to park closer.  Nate Davenport will be providing live music at no charge and will be selling T-shirts & CDs if you are interested.  He’s good, so you should come to the post-party.  There will not be food at the post-party so eat at Third Base toward the end of REBar Camp when we serve food.  There will be beer and non-alcoholic beverages.

What about door prizes?

Door prizes will be given away at the end of REBar Camp by random drawing.  You must be present to win.  We have some great stuff donated by Realzi, MailFinch, Kohona Coffee, Love Puppies Brownies, New Movement Theatre and Austin Dirty Dog.

Schedule for REBar Camp Austin

12 noon – 1 pm – Registration/Sign-up to lead sessions (If you are interested in leading a session, get there early! There will be NO pre-determined sessions at REBar Camp Austin, so don’t ask!)

1 pm – 1:20 pm – Welcome & Opening Remarks

1:30 pm – 5:35 pm – Sessions (There will be 5 sessions, each lasting 45 minutes, with 5 minute breaks between)

5:40 pm – Closing Remarks, Door Prize Drawings, Post-Party Announcements

7 – 9 pm – Post-REBar Camp Celebration at The GoodLife Team HQ – 1114 E Cesar Chavez; Austin, Texas

REBar Camp Austin is on!!!!

A lot of people have been asking about RE Bar Camp in relation to SXSW – I’m happy to announce that we have secured a venue & a date!  Lots more details coming soon..stay tuned and RSVP.  Please contact me at 512-784-8440 if you are interested in helping plan the event or have questions.  We are also looking for event sponsors!

When:  Thursday, March 11, 2009 (the day before SXSW Interactive starts)

Where:  Third Base Sports Bar Downtown; 1717 West 6th Street; Austin, Texas

The venue is fabulous and will have high speed wireless access for us, as well as televisions where we can broadcast the tweet stream for the event.  We are still working on nailing down a time, as Big XII basketball tournament is that day and we’re trying not to overlap with the Texas game (you know we love our Horns down here!)  We do have the space reserved from 12 noon – 7 pm at this point though, so we are targeting a 1-6 pm time frame.  Since we know SXSW is a multi-day event, we were trying to accommodate travel schedules for our attendees by hosting it later in the day.  In other words, you could just take an early flight on the 11th and still make it in time for the event.  Another great thing about Third Base is that there is a large, FREE parking garage on-site, which is not true for most of Austin’s downtown.
