The SF Happy Hour meet-up

By Brad Coy | April 17, 2008

Last night a few of us convened at the Ferry Buildings’ famed Taylors Refresher for our first Happy Hour local meet up to start the talks of on the ground support for the event.  The turn out, though few was impressive.   We have some new volunteers on board of great importance to the success of our effort.  We opened up discussion on getting some support with Tech set-up, load in (night before) help, registration, and Food.  If you are going to get a bunch of geeks together for a BarCamp they will want to eat.

Cindy Lin of Staged4More has some experience in organizing conferences and sponsorships and suggested some great ideas for fueling the campers as well as our getting people registered.   Eric Bryant new contributor to the Geek Estate BlogRE Coach and Wine connoisseur showed up fresh from a nice sunny day in Napa with Wine in hand to offer some enthusiasm for tech support and word of mouth promotion.  Staycee G. of Green Valley Prudential tagged along, new to the Web 2.0 idea she seems very excited (hope we didn’t scare you too much Staycee.)   We also had Pat Kitano of the all mighty Transparent RE blog show up with MacBook in hand to share some great insights on last months RE Tech South event and their efforts of coordinating.

All in all it was a nice couple of hours spent in the dusk of the city’s day, meeting a few of the local Camp volunteers to get to know one another and brainstorm a little of what needs to happen in the next few months.  July will be here before we know it, and with the fireball of an event that RE Bar Camp is becoming, we are going to need some real good local support.

What is a “Bar Camp” anyway?

By Todd Carpenter | April 14, 2008

I received a second email this morning, asking just such question. I like the definition wikipedia gives for it.

BarCamp is an international network of user generated conferences — open, participatory workshop-events, whose content is provided by participants — often focusing on early-stage web applications, and related open source technologies, social protocols, and open data formats.

For us, it will be a meeting of the minds on how to use the web to better our marketing and communication efforts in the field of real estate. It’s going to be great, so be sure to book your travel plans for Inman Connect for one day ahead of time.

The good news is, lots of people want to come…

By Todd Carpenter | March 24, 2008

…the bad news is, it’s going to cost us more money. Here’s the latest comment from Brad on the wiki.

Update 3/14 Sounds like the Sanbox Suites might not be available. Looking into other options and trying to keep it close to the Palace and Bart.

I talked with the events coordinator at the Swedish American Hall/Cafe Du Nord tonight. The have availablility with 3 different rooms to choose from depending on the size of our group. Can we speculate this number yet? The great thing about the Hall is that we can also do a piggy-back option and take over the bar - Cafe Du Nord - afterwords for a party with drinks and appetizers from 5:30-8:00. At 8:30, they open to the public with live music. Cost for the day runs $1,000 - $2,500 depending on our needs. At the $1,000 level we are looking at a room that would seat 50-75 and the $2,500 option would be the “Ballroom” which I understand we would need at least 100 people. The ballroom is 2 floors with extra rooms that we could use for break-out sessions. If this sounds like an option, I think we arrange to go by and take a look. - Brad

We really want to use the Swedish American Hall ballroom. This will allow us to host a bigger crowd, but it also means we need more sponsors to step up to the table. When you consider all the movers and shakers who will be attending, $250 is a steal for a chance to connect with them. Add yourself to the wiki to commit. We’ll be collecting this next month.

Geez, look who’s coming to RE Bar Camp

By Todd Carpenter | March 8, 2008

You know what? Even if there were no planned classes, I’d still want to go to RE Bar Camp. Take a look at the RSVP list. The blogging brain power of the existing list is nothing short of amazing. There’s NO ONE in the real estate industry who has nothing to learn from the people on this list.

Now here’s the bad news. Our planned location will only accommodate so many people. Admission is free, but it may end up limited to first-comers. Get yourself on the RSVP list. This is going to be awesome.

It’s time to take command

By Todd Carpenter | March 2, 2008

Okay, we have a bunch of volunteers, and we have bunch of ideas. Now we need to combine them. We made up an initial list of subjects that might be interesting to cover. But for any of them to take flight, we need team leaders for each topic. You’ll basically be in charge of shaping the session, and it’s content.

Over on our wiki, there’s list of Proposed Sessions. You can either choose on of these, or offer up one of your own. Edit the wiki (password is c4mp) with your name next to the subject you want to lead.

Once you’ve signed up, the next step is to formulate you’re session, and post it here for public review/comment. I can set you up with a user name on the blog so you can contribute directly. If you’d rather, just email me a post, and I’ll publish it for you.

Help Promote REBarcamp

By mprice | February 24, 2008

REBarcamp.ComThe first organizational meeting for REBarcamp was held via a Yugma conference call this past Friday. The energy was palpable, and the ideas flowed like cold beer from a tap (that was a topic of discussion that was mentioned by certain volunteer more than once. Hint his initials are MP :).

July will be upon us pretty quick, so we would like to appeal to the volunteers and organizers of REBarcamp to do their part by blogging about the event and placing link badges on their sites and blogs as well. I have uploaded a zip file to the files directory in the wiki with several formats. In keeping with the spirit of a user generated conference, you’re free to create whatever kind of link badge or graphic you wish. Upload it to the wiki if you want to share it with the group. Several of the participants have already created some cool graphics. It was agreed that the official link destination should be this blog (rebarcamp.com). There’s also a press release on the wiki that you can use to craft your posts with.

The next conference call is set for 3/22, stay tuned to the blog for more details. Please join us! Until then, help spread the word!

Cheers,

Mike Price - MLBroadcast.Com

Conference call notes.

By Todd Carpenter | February 22, 2008

If you weren’t on the call this won’t make a whole lot of sense. But here’s Kristal’s notes for everyone to review. We’ll have this organized in the next few days, and will be asking for help and input. Stay tuned.

Volunteering for RE Bar Camp

By Todd Carpenter | February 11, 2008

It’s not going to cost you a dime to come to RE Bar Camp, but it definitely isn’t free. Everyone who attends may be called upon to share their experience. In addition, many of the attendees are taking a larger roll in putting this event together.

Andy is doing most of the legwork. You can get an update on his efforts by tuning into ZebraTalk this Friday. Speaking of Zebra’s, Daniel has volunteered to work on the video and streaming efforts for the conference. Rudy Trulia Bachraty is lending his expertise here as well. Brad Coy is working on projection stuff.

Michael Price designed our sweet logo and started out Facebook group. Joel Burslem set up, and is managing our LinkedIn group. I set up this blog. Ginger Wilcox wrote a press release for us. Lani & Benn Rosales have yet to officially volunteer, yet that hasn’t stopped them from taking the drivers seat in promoting the event through their blogs.

Of course, we’ll need help at the event itself. Kristal Kraft has volunteered to contribute her excellent photography skills. Meanwhile, Jay, Reggie, and Nicole have put themselves on call.

If you want to get help out, please go to the wiki and add yourself as a volunteer. If you can’t think of a way to contribute, don’t worry, we will.
